Knee Injuries can be acute in nature including traumatic injuries picked up during sport of due to a slip or fall. In the younger age group cartilage injuries are common. Cruciate ligament injury and subsequent reconstruction require effective rehabilitation and reintroduction to sport and activity as do other knee ligament injuries.
Poor biomechanics can lead to “Runners Knee” and dysfunction of the patella (kneecap) movement can lead to pain and reduced tolerance to exercise and activity.
Older people can develop wear and tear changes to the cartilage and joint surfaces. Treatment here consists of effective exercise to protect joints by maintaining muscle length and strength helping to normalise joint function as well as pain management.
