Jim’s Updates: Days 7, 8 and 9

Day 7: today has had it’s ups and down to say the least! An easy stroll to the stadium for around 9pm wasn’t too bad for my roomie to relax for a bit before warming up for his 400m final. A very nervous warm up area and tense start line. A good race with the top 3 finishing within 0.7seconds and my roomie picked up an bronze medal!

Now the bar has been set and I know what I have to do once the 200m heats start tomorrow.

Now to the downside – whilst I was watching my roomies race I left my bag in the warm up area. Some ……………………………….. (Fill in the blank yourself!) went into my bag, and got my wallet and emptied the notes and change from it and then put it back calmly and walked off with my cash!! Fortunately there was only about £25 in it but that’s not really the point, it just makes you feel totally violated!! It just makes me want to run angry when I get the track again tomorrow.

Day 8: a ridiculously early start for the heats today needing to be in the warm up area for 8am! I don’t care how old you are, sprinters don’t do early!! One of my roomies being in the younger age group starts at 9.30 and mine and my other roomie are at 9.45am – once again sprinters don’t do early!
Job done in the heats and now another full days rest before the final Saturday early evening. A good representation in the final with 3 GB athletes making it through including my roomie. List of times from heats and qualifiers for the final:

Once again, after some minor chiro treatment and a massage it’s now an afternoon of R&R before a stroll to the seafront for a nice Italian meal tonight.
Day off tomorrow (Friday) so I will be doing my final blogs over the weekend to include the 200m final and both the 4x100m and 4x400m relays

Day 9: day off again today and not much going on at the track either so a quiet day all round. Only thing to sort out is the relays for both distances and all age groups from 35 to 90+!! This is what the sorting out process looks like in the TeamGB meeting room!

All done and teams sorted and I’ve got 3rd leg in the 4x100m and 4th leg in the 4x400m. Going for gold in both!! Now to relax for the rest of the day.
